Flight to Bali

Finally in the air after about an hour delay at the airport, which was lucky actually since we were running a bit late (as usual). It gave us time to have coffee and something to eat. Bumped into Tammy who was also heading to Bali but flying Garuda.

At check in we were told we couldn’t sit together as the flight was full but we both got seats in the exit rows just diagonally opposite each other one row apart. There is actually a whole row of vacant seats in front of George but are empty because they don’t recline.

(Just as as a side note having the iPad on the plane is awesome. It’s just the right size and I’m so glad i bought the Apple cover for it yesterday as it sits on a perfect angle to type and watch a movie.)

So as I was saying there is a whole row of seats in front of George, she is actually happy with her leg room and has taken a sleeping tablet so I’m currently spread out over 3 seats!!

It still feels a bit surreal and I don’t think I will be in holiday mode until we are actually in our villa. Going to start watching The Girl Who Played With Fire so that should fill in a couple hours.

….just flew over Uluru although the pilot stilled called it Ayers Rock. It was amazing, first time I have seen it.

Just made gingerbread for the first time. Quite tasty and I made some cute little animals with the small pieces.

Just downloaded the updated app for the iPhone. It seems simpler to use and I can view comments. Would have been good last week in tassie.

I’ve noticed that a few of my posts didn’t make it to the blog, I think because we were out of range most of the time. Just an update to the last post, Jim was able to upgrade us to our cabin so it was awesome to have a decent sleep. We were also lucky weather-wise as it was very calm.

Last Day in Tassie

We’ve had a great time in Tassie but we are looking forward to coming home. We are currently in line waiting to take the car onto the ship. This time we have been lucky as George’s cousin Jim is working tonight. He helps the captain sail the ship (not sure of his title). We came here earlier and he took us behind the scenes. We went to the engine room and even the bridge which is like the cockpit 10 stories high. He said waves have even reached that high. He had a few stories to tell including the time he had to get in the lifesaving dinghy to rescue someone that had jumped. There were 4 metre waves and they were in the middle of the Bass straight so he was never found.

….we are now on the ship having a beer and chips waiting for it to set sail. Because we only booked the recliner chairs Jim said he should be able to upgrade us to a cabin which would be awesome.

We spent the morning in launceston shopping and then went for a walk around Cataract Gorge which is gorgeous!! We then headed to devonport stopping at the zoo which was a little disappointing but we got to pat a devil and I patted a little monkey through the bars. Once George heard a copperhead had been spotted we were out of there in a flash!

Launceston

We drove up to Launceston today. It was freezing when we left Hobart and even only an hour away from launceston in oakford, where we stopped for a bite to eat, it was still cold. As soon as we got closer to launceston the sun was shining and it was very warm. We checked into our hotel and walked down to the waterfront where we enjoyed a beer in the sun. We explored the city a little more and have come back to the room for George to have a little lie down. She’s been a bit fluey so isn’t feeling 100%. We’ve been eating a lot of seafood and so have decided on Thai for dinner tonight.
The iPhone has been so helpful, not only for blogging, email and Internet but google maps is awesome for helping us find our way and finding places close by. Just type in for example ‘thai’ and it will pop up with all the Thai restaurants in the vicinity.
Tomorrow we are going to Cataract Gorge and the Tasmania zoo before heading back to devenport to the Ferry.
